The numbers represent the physical dimensions of the cylindrical cell: 18mm in diameter and 65mm in length. The “0” at the end signifies that it is a cylindrical cell.
It’s a trade-off in battery design. High-capacity cells (e.g., 3500mAh) are designed to store the most energy and are ideal for long-runtime applications like laptops. High-discharge cells (e.g., a 2000mAh, 10C cell) are designed to deliver a large amount of power quickly and are perfect for high-torque applications like power tools.
This describes the pack’s internal configuration. The number before “S” indicates how many cells are in Series (which multiplies the voltage; e.g., 3S is 3 x 3.7V = 11.1V). The number before “P” indicates how many cells are in Parallel (which multiplies the capacity; e.g., 2P is 2 x 2600mAh = 5200mAh). A 3S1P pack has 3 cells in series; a 2S2P pack has 2 cells in series and 2 in parallel, for a total of 4 cells.
A BMS is the brain of a multi-cell pack. It’s critical for safety as it protects against over-charge, over-discharge, short circuits, and overheating. Most importantly, it performs cell balancing, which ensures all cells in the pack are at an equal state of charge, drastically increasing the pack’s performance and lifespan.
